Rudolph, The Red
Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows.
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games.
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
As they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
You'll go down in history!
Prancer, and Vixen,
Comet, and Cupid, and
Donner and Blitzen
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows.
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games.
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
As they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
You'll go down in history!

Rudolph's story was originally written in verse by Robert L. May for the Montgomery Ward chain of department stores in 1939 and published as a book to be given to children in the store at Christmas time. May was an Orthodox Jew hired as a freelance writer by the clothing store chain.
