1955 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210

Description of the car by previous owner Thomas Gordon, Crestview Florida.

Up for sell is a garage kept, two door 1955 Chevy Bel post sedan. These cars have always been one of the most sought after and after owning one, I can see why. This is a driver car that turns the head. As I told my 79 year old father, this car is a chick magnetic. Considering I was born over a decade later, unfortunately for me, the chicks that are drawn to it remember when it was built. Such is life.

Exterior: Classic red body with white top. Car was obviously professionally painted and it looks to have been done a few years before I bought it in 2006. There are few "spots" on it near the rear tires but you can't see them unless you get real close. Even then I have to run my hand down it. There is a nick near the driver side back tire where a rock it. Nothing major and you can see the pictures below. Chrome needs to be redone. Not in bad shape, just not pristine. Please understand that "not in bad" shape is a relative description. See the pictures for yourself. Tires are in good shape and there are Centerline wheels on the car. All the glass looks good and I don't see any chips or nicks. Again, see pictures for yourself.

Interior: Nice, nice, nice. This portion has been completely restored from the floor carpet, to the door panels, to the seats. Has seat belts in the car that I refused to use when I drove the car. For starters, it's a tank. And secondly, seat belts aren't required by law in a car this old. Headliner is in good condition. Looks like the original ’55 steering wheel and gauges. Near the floorboard are some after market gauges and a B&M Floor Shifter. Other than the clock, everything in the Bel Air is working condition from the gauges, lights, and signals all the way to the wipers, making this car road ready. Well, not sure if the temp gauge works on the original gauges but I know the after market temp gauge works. Probably 15-20 years ago, someone installed a modern tape cassette deck in the dash that looks like the original AM radio. Not sure if it works...who has cassette tapes anymore?

Engine: Has a 350 engine with a four barrel Edlebrock carburetor. Someone added power steering and an electric fan. (Manual switch near the after market gauges). As you can see in the pictures, not much has been done to the engine compartment. The cars I've seen like this don't typically show the engine unless it's 100% original or chromed out. I want the buyer to know exactly what they are getting so be sure to look through those 30+ pictures. Car starts right up when I turn it over. Let it set a week and I pump the gas three times and turn it over. Out comes the roar of a typical 350 Chevy. Nice.

Miscellaneous: The trunk is big enough for one large body or two small bodies. No, I never tried so that's pure speculation on my part. There's a spar tire in the back that looks 100 years old. When you pop the truck, you'll find a new chrome oil pan that was bought for this car but never installed. When I bought this car, the heater core, battery, carburetor, and thermostat went out almost immediately. I'm in Florida so heater core got bypassed. Put on a performance Edelbrock carburetor, new battery, alternator, and thermostat. About eight months ago I went out to the garage and tried to crank it. Nothing happened. Then I realized it had been 18 months since I drove that car. So I had it towed into the mechanic and he ended up putting a new copper gas line and new fuel tank on the car. It runs like a champ and I hate to sell it. I'd imagine I've driven this car 200-250 miles since I got it and would rather sell it to someone that has time to drive it than let it fade away sitting in my garage. It does have a drip here and there but I suppose that's expected on a 55 year old car.

No idea how many miles are on this car. I put 99999 as a shot in the dark.

You'll see below that there's a bumper sticker on the rear bumper. I couldn't believe it when the car was delivered that some moron put a sticker on a car like that. So I immediately pulled it off only to find someone had put about a quarter size hole in the bumper. It looked so out of place that I ended up putting a bumper sticker on it. Now people probably ride behind me and wonder what kind of moron puts a bumper sticker on a 55 year old car. *sigh*

This is a driver car that turns heads. I'd like to think it was me that turned heads but alas, it only happens when I'm driving this car.
